Dean Roemmich is an internationally renowned physical oceanographer at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at San Diego and the leading force behind the revolutionary array of ocean-monitoring Argo sensors. He won the highly prestigious 2008 Sverdrup Gold Medal awarded by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) for his "contributions to the measurement and understanding of the ocean's role in climate, and for leading the development and implementation of the Argo array."
